Sri Pathbari Asram

Shri Pathbari Ashram, is situated at Barahnagar, on the bank of Hooghly ( Ganga ) river, in Kolkata. About Five Hundred and Fifty years ago, Sri Raghunath Upadhyay, a scholar in Shri Madbhagavatam, used to stay in the site of  the present Shri Pathbari Ashram. Lord Shri Chaitanya  Mahaprabhu (also known as Shri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu or  Shri  Gauranga Mahaprabhu ) came to Shri Raghunath Upadhyay from Panihati after crossing the river Ganges in a boat and was thrilled to hear  Shri Madbhagavatam from Shri  Raghunath.

Lord Mahaprabhu was so happy that, He conferred upon Shri Raghunath, the title of " Shri Bhagavatacharya ". Shri Pathbari Asram, thus, is considered to be a sacred place as it bears the footsteps of the Lord Chaitanya.

During the passage of time, on being desired by Sri Radharaman Charan Das Babaji Maharaj, his disciple Sri Ramdas Babaji Maharaj took over the services ( Seva ) of Sri Pathbari Asram. Sri Ramdas Babaji Maharaj traveled all over India and spread the message of Lord Nityananda Mahaprabhu and Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu by sankirtana. He initiated my wife Smt Runu Mukherjee.

For the worship (puja) and seva (service) of the Deities, Sri Ramdas Babaji Maharaj brought his disciple Sri Muralidhar Das Babaji from Sri Radhakund (near Sri Vrindavan) to Sri Pathbari Asram.

Sri Muralidhar Das Babaji led the life of a true saint, a true devotee and a true sevak. He used to get up at the early dawn before sunrise and go to the Ganges ( Hooghly river ) near Sri Pathbari Asram, for bath every morning. Whole day he used to remain busy with the activities of worshipping of his loving " Nitai, Gaur". In the afternoon he used to attend Srimad Bhagavat discourses and side by the side used to give initiation (diksha) to the devotees including the fallen ones like me. He also gave Diksha to my daughter, Luna, in Guwahati (Assam) when he came there to visit Ma Kamakhya Temple.

Sri Krishnananda Das Babaji Maharaj, another disciple of Sri Ramdas Babaji Maharaj, was famous for his vast knowledge in Sri Madbhagabatam. He delivered discourses in all parts of our country. He also initiated my mother by giving her Diksha.

Sri Madhusudan Das Babaji Maharaj, also a disciple of Sri Ramdas Babaji Maharaj, was till recently the Chief Priest of Sri Pathbari Asram. He initiated my grand daughter Tushi alias Dipanki by giving Diksha to her.

Sri Raj Krishna Das Babaji Maharaj, disciple of Sri Ramdas Babaji Maharaj, is also staying at Sri Pathbari Asram. He initiated my son in law, Rajeev by giving him Diksha.
